Weaving the Experiences for All
PROJECT BACKGROUND
To bring different communities together by exchanging the textile and weaving ideas of different ethnic groups in Hong Kong. The Pakistani and Indian groups have created their significant history and culture in Sham Shui Po. Yet there is a lack of public space for inter-ethnic interaction to celebrate multiculturalism in Hong Kong. By integrating these valuable contexts, this project can play a pivotal role in creating the bonding of different ethnic groups in the district.
PROJECT CONCEPT
Meanwhile, the youth have shown growing interest in the disappearing textile kingdom and handicraft skills in Sham Shui Po in recent years. Coupled with the emerging modern coffee shops and studios in the nearby Tai Nan Street area, one may wonder how will this place look in 50 years? While helping to preserve the fading textile and handicraft industries amid the rapid development in Sham Shui Po, in which ways will this space facilitate the communication between ethnic groups and encourage the future generations to appreciate and respect the significance of different communities in Hong Kong?
