Revitalisation of Mountain Lodge on Victoria Peak
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Mountain Lodge on Victoria Peak was built between 1900 and 1902 as the former summer residence of the Hong Kong Governors. Due to the extended period of being vacant and the bad state of disrepair during WWII, the main buildings and servants’ quarters were pulled down completely in 1946 while retaining the Gate Lodge. In the 1970s, the site was redeveloped and was declared open to the public as the Victoria Peak Garden, with the Gate Lodge subsequently standing as a monument in 1995.
PROJECT CONCEPT
With the reminiscences of its intriguing past, the Garden possesses its unique features. But as time passes, it has lost the ability to tell its own story. Hence, the idea of this project is to revive the lost story by inviting visitors to experience and enjoy a journey through the use of materials and imagination. The added parametric shapes will bring a new character and soul to the Garden. By making it more exciting, the Garden will ultimately be able to embrace the new era while proud standing at its current location.
