Ayu Melati
Contemporary Indonesian bridal Jewellery
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Ayu Melati is a collection of jewelry inspired by Indonesian wedding attire. On her wedding day, the bride will often have on the back of her hand a tattoo called “henna”, which has inspired the making of the bracelet. Meanwhile, the hairpin is a simplified design of the traditional Indonesian wedding headpiece.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The three blooming flowers on the upper part of the earpiece represents “trimutri”, a term for the three gods that symbolize unity. The hanging “jasmine buds” are made from various sizes of pearls veiled with mesh textile to represent Ronce Melati, a strand of jasmine buds that represents purity and virtue of the bride. The collection is made with 24K gold plated brass. It is designed to mimic the traditional Indonesian culture fused with a modern approach in hope of preserving the Indonesian culture - to be inherited by generations to come.
